The journey from amateur to professional
Born in Sukuta, Alassana Jatta, started playing football with his boyhood club Nema City in Sukuta in 2013. His impressive performance with Zonal team (district team) made him popular among local fans.
Finally, Alhaji Sarr, the coach at the time of Ports Authority, groomed him and Alassana started training with Ports Authority in the 2014/2015 season. However he did not get featured for a single game. In the following “Nawettan" season (annual summer tournament), Alassana played with Sukuta in the Zonal tournament (district tournament) of 2016. Jatta played some of his best football that people of Sukuta have ever seen. This led to his first professional contract with Real de Banjul in 2016. In his debut season he scored 7 goals which resulted in having a trial with Genoa CFC in Italy. Alassana went back to Gambia to pursue his dreams. In Gambia’s first division league in the season of 2017/2018, Alassana was Real de Banjul’s top goal scorer with 11 goals and won the Real de Banjul Player of the Season Award.
At the end of the season Alassana had a trail in Estonia. After only a week of trial with FC Paide and scoring 4 goals in a test game his skills convinced the coaching staff about his potential. He signed a 2 year loan deal with FC Paide Linnameeskond, and transferred from Real de Banjul in January 2019.
He made 14 outings for Paide Linnameeskond and scored 13 goals, including scoring singlehandedly 5 goals against Kuressaare FC.
The Gambian Striker in Denmark
Alassana joined Viborg FF the Danish first division outfit in August 2019. Despite having a slow start due to an ankle injury, in his 17 appearances he scored 7 goals. With an impressive goal conversion rate of 0.46 goals in every 90 minutes he was on the pitch (according to FotMob). His team is currently in the second position with 10 points behind the first position occupied by Vejle Boldklub. Alassana missed Viborg`s last game on 10.07.2020 due to a suspension (they drew 2:2 against Fremad Amager). With 3 more games to play before the end of the season, it might be over for Alassana and his team to qualify for the next season of Danish Superliga. They will have to fight to succeed.
“I want to start the next season with a positive attitude since now I have more experience with Danish football. I am hoping to give everything I have to my current club, as it is expected from me.” — Alassana Jatta
Gambian Scorpion Debut
Jatta made his national debut in May 2018 for the Gambia U23
(aka Scorpions) in a friendly game against Morocco in Banjul, Gambia. Recently, he was named among the Gambia’s Senior Team Preliminary 30 Man Squad for the AfCON qualifiers announced by Tom Saintfiet.
“It will be a dream come true for me to put on the national colours and play for the national team. I would love to support my country in pursuing its goal of qualifying for the next AfCON✊🏾” — Jatta remarks.
